
Constantin Stamati (1786-1869) is a remarkable figure in Moldovan literature, who tried to revive the glorious past of his nation through his works. He was an enlightened writer, who made a great mark on Romanian literature with his works:"“Suceava and Alexandru the King in the XV c. ", "The Lord of Moldova", "Stefan the Great the VIth and his brave sword bearer Arbore", "About Basarabia and its ancient fortress", etc.
In 1866 he was chosen as a member of the Romanian Literature Association. He was known as a man of many passions. He was a member of "Doctors and Naturalists Club", a member of "Imperial History and Antiquity Association" in Odessa, spoke French, Greek and Russian, held a lot of important jobs in Chisinau, etc. C. Stamati was a very close friend of A.S.Pushkin. During Pushkin’s stay in Moldova they both became close friends and traveled together a lot.
He spent his last years in his house in Ocnita, where he died in 1869.
